Tragic Boat Fire in Long Beach Claims 2 Lives, Injures 3 Others: Fire Department Responds

Two individuals were slain and three others were injured in a boat fire in Long Beach, California, according to fire officials.
Saturday, a 35-foot pleasure craft caught fire near the 200 block of Marina Dive in Alamitos Bay, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.
According to fire officials, the yacht was near a fuel port.
Five individuals were involved in the incident, according to the Long Beach Fire Department. The three survivors who sustained fire injuries were treated and transported to local hospitals by paramedics.
Authorities informed KABC, an ABC News affiliate in Los Angeles, that two women in their sixties perished in the incident.
Long Beach fire officials reported that the blaze was put out with assistance from the Orange County Fire Authority.
According to KABC, Long Beach Fire Department Captain Jake Heflin stated, “Initial reports indicated they were in the process of doing some type of refueling operation, or had just completed a fueling operation.”
Authorities stated that an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

Two New Jersey firefighters perished last month while battling a blazing blaze aboard a cargo ship anchored in Newark.
The firefighters issued a “Mayday” when two of their own were missing after becoming confined inside the blazing vessel. The second “Mayday” message came 15 minutes later, according to Newark officials at the time.
According to city officials, two Newark firefighters, 45-year-old Augusta Acabou and 49-year-old Wayne Brooks, were eventually located and brought to a hospital, where they both perished.
According to municipal officials, three additional firefighters from the Newark Fire Department and two firefighters from the Elizabeth Fire Department sustained injuries during the incident.
