Texas Weatherization Rebate: Here’s How to Get Yours


Are you a Texas resident with high residential energy costs? The Texas Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) aims to increase the energy efficiency of the residences that are eligible families and individuals. 

The Texas Weatherization Assistance Program is designed to assist low-income seniors, disabled adults, and families in weatherizing their homes. The program is administered through contracts with 21 non-profit organizations and local governments with experience in weatherization service delivery. Eligibility Criteria and Preferences for the Weatherization Rebate

To qualify for the Weatherization Rebate, low-income eligibility requirements based on federal poverty guidelines must be met. In addition, certain classes receive preferential treatment:

People over the age of 60

Families in which at least one disabled member is present

Families with children aged five or younger

You are automatically eligible for weatherization assistance if you receive benefits from SNAP, TANF, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or certain payments for Means Tested Veteran Programs. To determine income eligibility, the program establishes annual household income limits before taxes. Here are the maximum household income levels dependent on size:

1 individual: $21,870

2 individuals: $29,580 

3 individuals: $37,290

4 individuals: $45,000

5 individuals: $52,710

6 individuals: $60,420 

7 individuals: $68,130 

8 individuals: $75,840 

For households with more than eight members, an additional $7,710 per individual is added. It is essential to confirm the most accurate guidelines by contacting the relevant management agency.

You can register for the Weatherization Rebate by contacting the local subrecipient agency if you believe you qualify. Simply call 1-888-606-8889 toll-free between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. This toll-free number will connect you directly to your county’s WAP service provider. Alternatively, you can visit the Help for Texans page of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, select Weatherization, enter your county of residence, and press “Find Help.”
