Six Months After Filing for Legal Separation, Valerie Bertinelli Filed for Divorce From Tom Vitale

After having been legally separated since the month of November, Valerie Bertinelli has now taken the next step and filed for divorce from her spouse Tom Vitale.

According to court documents acquired by PEOPLE, the Food Network star, who is 62 years old, submitted the updated petition to the Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday.

According to the papers, Bertinelli states that “irreconcilable issues” are the reason why they decided to end their marriage after ten years of marriage.

Documents submitted to the court reveal more information, namely that Bertinelli and Vitale, who is a financial advisor, have a prenuptial agreement that they intend to abide with.

After being together for a number of years as a couple, Bertinelli and Vitale tied the knot in June of 2011. Patrick, the actress’s brother, is the one who brought the two of them together.

“I could have lived the rest of my life with Tom and not be married, but I wanted to call him my husband,'” the star of the television show Hot in Cleveland said in an interview with PEOPLE shortly after the wedding in 2011, which took place in 2011.

“I had a strong want to talk about how I feel about Tom with the individuals who are most important to me.”

Bertinelli was previously married to Eddie Van Halen from 1981 to 2007, and during that time they had one kid together, a son named Wolf who is now 31 years old.

Eddie passed away in October 2020 at the age of 65 due to lung cancer. The actress detailed in her autobiography Enough Already:

Learning to Love the Way I Am Today how she parted ways with her “soulmate,” and an extract from the book was published in an issue of PEOPLE published in January specifically for that publication.

She wrote in her journal about their relationship, “We were regarded as a mismatch.” “Publicly, Ed was a bad boy rock star and America’s sweetheart, but behind closed doors, he wasn’t the guy people believed he was, and neither was I.”

Their stormy marriage was matched only by their powerful and loving connection to one another. “I love you” are the final words Ed speaks to Wolfie and me, and they are the last words we say to him before he ceases breathing,” she said. “I love you” are also the last words we say to him before he stops breathing.

She claimed that her feelings for Eddie were not a factor in her choice to end her relationship with Vitale.

In a January interview with PEOPLE, Bertinelli stated, “We drifted apart.” “My feelings for Ed have nothing to do with this decision at all. I hope that everything works out well for Tom, and I am confident that he feels the same way about me.”
