Governor Abbott of Texas Transports Migrants From the Border and Drops Them Off to Fox’s Dc Headquarters!

Despite the fact that most legal experts believe he has the jurisdiction to do so, Texas Governor Greg Abbott is moving through with his plan to transport undocumented migrants to Washington, DC.

On Wednesday, the Texas Republican administration oversaw the first busload of undocumented migrants to arrive in the nation’s capital; the bus landed at the headquarters of the right-leaning network which was the first to report on the incident and had a piece published minutes later.

Mr. Abbott’s efforts have been slammed by the White House as a publicity ploy. State officials have no legal authority outside of their own area, and it’s unclear if the migrants who came on Wednesday did so with Washington DC municipal officials’ participation, approval, or knowledge.

When approached, a Fox representative did not respond to a question about whether Fox’s journalists and Mr. Abbott’s office collaborated or planned anything.

The Independent also called out to DC Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office on Wednesday morning to see if her administration is assisting the migrants after they arrive but received no response. It’s unknown whether the passengers aboard the bus were able to find lodging in the city.

Mr Abbott claimed in a statement that “as the federal government continues to roll back commonsense policies that once kept our communities safe,” “our local law enforcement has stepped up to protect Texans from dangerous criminals, deadly drugs, and illegal contraband flooding into the Lone Star State.”

A full count of the migrants on the bus that arrived on Wednesday was not immediately available. According to Fox, some of the passengers who arrived on Wednesday did so as family units,

despite the fact that Texas officials indicated the charter buses they planned to employ for the trips could hold up to 40 people each.

During a recent White House press briefing, White House press secretary Jen Psaki pointed out Mr. Abbott’s evident lack of legal grounding for the plan, referring to Mr. Abbott’s announcement as little more than a “publicity stunt” in an election year.

Mr. Abbott is up for re-election this year, and he’ll be up against Beto O’Rourke, a former Democratic congressman from Texas who is now attempting to dethrone the governor after his unsuccessful presidential bid in 2020.

Whether the governor broke the law by busing migrants across state lines to what he sees as a Democratic stronghold is incidental to the fact that Wednesday’s action marks a clear escalation in the White House’s dispute with Republican governors and lawmakers over immigration.

Republicans have spent the entirety of Biden’s presidency whining that the president’s relaxation of widely criticised harsh immigration policy is essentially encouraging more northern migration throughout Central and South America.

The White House has put Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of the crisis and has been working to address what it sees as the core reasons of migration across the Americas, but there has been little success.

The Biden administration recently announced that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would rescind the Trump administration’s Title 42 authority to turn away asylum-seekers at the border,

a move Republicans say will exacerbate illegal migration and asylum claims, which are legal but require a person to be physically present at the US border or inside the country to be processed.

As a result, the GOP has demanded that Joe Biden and the CDC reinstate the rule, threatening to withhold money for future federal efforts to assist Americans with Covid-19. During a Fox  Sunday interview over the weekend, Ms. Psaki accused the GOP of keeping Covid-19 funding “hostage” as a result of the confrontation.

As the GOP prepares to win control of both the House and the Senate in the fall, immigration and fears of so-called migrant “caravans” have become favourite boogeymen of the right.
