For the First Time in Six Months, No Child Tax Credit Payments!

Because the programme terminated at the end of last year, millions of families will not receive their monthly child tax credit payments this weekend, marking the first time in six months that they will not receive them.

What it means and why it matters: According to the Internal Revenue Service, more than 35 million families have received the reimbursements.

For the First Time in Six Months, No Child Tax Credit Payments

The payments were made as part of the American Rescue Plan, which was established in 2021 and was widely regarded as one of the most significant anti-poverty initiatives in modern history.

  • Despite the fact that Biden’s social spending measure, dubbed Build Back Better, would have permanently extended those payments to many families beyond a December 31 deadline, it did not pass before the end of 2021.
  • Families were eligible to receive up to $300 per month for children under the age of six, and up to $250 per month for children aged six to seventeen.
