California Strikers’ Eligibility for Unemployment Benefits
Hollywood’s SAG-AFTRA writers’ and performers’ strike is still going on, and as a result, both individuals and studios have been suffering financially.
People who actually have jobs in the state of California are also affected significantly by this, and many are concerned about how this may affect their CalWORK Eligibility status.
People in this state who are on protest are unsure if these benefits can be withheld from them since they are not now employed.
We will go over the grounds for denying these benefits and inform people if their eligibility is impacted by the strike that is presently taking place. This is bad news for Californian employees.
Simply put, California employees who choose to strike are not entitled to CalWORK benefits. Democratic lawmakers first put out a proposal in August that would let any strike-taking state employee receive unemployment benefits while they are on the picket line.
For workers in the state who are currently on strike, however, there are no CalWORK benefits available.
These benefits are not available to strikers because no new legislation regarding them has been passed. In the context of the SAG-AFTRA strike, this just makes things harder for the workers and simpler for the studios.

What Else Prevents You From Being Eligible for CalWORKs?
Other exclusions from CalWORK eligibility include those who do not reside in California, those who are deemed to be fleeing felons, and those who have been convicted of drug-related felonies.
People who aren’t U.S. citizens or fail to satisfy the state of California’s residency criteria.
Even if a strike is fundamentally about a conflict between institutions and workers, many who participate in strikes choose not to work when they are physically able to.
People on picket lines are not entitled to these advantages in the face of the law. Not just Hollywood, but a number of other businesses in the state have gone on strike during the past few months.
