Biden – Hunter Biden — Is a Target for Republicans Who Hope to Retake the House of Representatives in the Midterm Elections!

During a briefing on potential election dangers, Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the No. 3 House Republican, tried to change the subject to Hunter Biden’s laptop.

On April 1, Stefanik asked the authorities if they had any evidence of Russian involvement in the release of Biden’s laptop to the news media in the fall of 2020, as high-ranking former government officials suggested in the weeks before the presidential election.

Officials informed Stefanik that law enforcement should answer the question.

After explaining why NPR won’t cover the Hunter Biden laptop story, Trump’s son wants to “defund” it.

Stefanik’s query echoes a prevalent GOP sentiment that suspicions concerning President Joe Biden’s son’s business affairs remain unaddressed. And they say they’ll do something.

As Republicans aim to retake the House and possibly the Senate in November, they are preparing to make Hunter Biden and his financial activities the focus of their investigations and oversight efforts.

‘I feel Hunter Biden poses a national security concern.’

Republican Rep. James Comer

Republican legislators and staff have discussed filing congressional subpoenas to foreign entities engaged in paying Hunter Biden, according to persons knowledgeable with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The people said early discussions included bringing in Republican lawyers and former Justice Department officials to help spearhead inquiries.

It will also protect the Democratic president against any accusations of malfeasance and argue that Republicans are motivated by opportunism.

For example, although his children and son-in-law had critical campaign or White House jobs, including those with high-level security clearances, Republicans did not demand probes into their foreign dealings.

It all points to a nasty, perhaps combustible battle between a GOP-controlled Congress and the White House, one that might probe deeply into the president’s personal affairs and affect the 2020 presidential contest.

In recent months, a Delaware grand jury heard information about Hunter Biden’s taxes and overseas business dealings.

Hunter Biden’s appointment to the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, and his efforts to negotiate business in China have long prompted suspicions about whether he traded on his father’s public service, including reported references to the “big guy” in his emails.

Joe Biden says he hasn’t discussed his son’s foreign business. And there’s no sign the president is involved in the FBI probe. A lawyer for Hunter Biden did not respond to an email.

A place on the board of the Ukrainian natural-gas business Burisma would not have been awarded to him had he not been the son of a longstanding senator and two-term vice president.

Hunter Biden is seen as a unifying force that can bring together GOP factions and possibly satisfy those asking for more dramatic action.

The House Freedom Caucus has suggested that if Republicans take control of the House, they should impeach Joe Biden for allegedly pressuring Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to announce a nonexistent investigation into the Bidens’ conduct in that country, and for allegedly inciting a Jan. 6, 2021, siege on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters seeking t

People familiar with the situation said Republicans are increasingly considering asking the Justice Department to name a special counsel.

If Republicans take the House, Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, says Hunter Biden is fair game. “I want to get the gavel soon.”

Comer’s oversight staff has already started requesting documents and archival material about the president’s son.

From Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, came a copy of a hard drive from a laptop Hunter Biden had left in a Delaware computer repair shop 18 months ago and never picked up.

With doubts raised regarding the laptop’s sources, including Giuliani, and because top Trump administration officials had already warned that Russia was seeking to discredit Joe Biden before the November election, the report was met with skepticism.

The Kremlin also meddled in the 2016 election by hacking and leaking Democratic emails.

Twitter explains why a New York Post story on Hunter Biden was censored after an upset

Former intelligence officers wrote a widely circulated letter a week after the New York Post piece. [T]he Russians are involved in the Hunter Biden email scandal, the letter stated.

“There are 50 former national intelligence officers who stated what he’s accusing me of is a Russian plant,” Biden remarked during the second presidential debate.

This remark went beyond the letter, however, it was generally reported that the laptop was disinformation. Trump accused Biden of citing Russia to shield his son.

No evidence of Russian connections to the laptop or emails has emerged since. Trump’s support was stated in a declassified US intelligence assessment of the 2020 election.

The assessment also claims Putin had a “purview” over the activities of a Ukrainian MP who met with Giuliani.

Robert Costello, Giuliani’s lawyer, called the Russian claims “absurd.” The FBI should investigate and punish any attempt by the intelligence agencies or intelligence community leadership to depict the facts surrounding Hunter Biden’s laptop as false.

A recent presentation on the Senate floor by Republican Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who in 2020 released a report on Hunter Biden and his work with Burisma, outlined charges that the media has disregarded but that the Justice Department and Congress should examine. According to Grassley, the Biden administration has ignored his oversight demands.

Bisnow administration and many senior Democrats have yet to officially address Hunter Biden. Trump’s son and other potential targets have been transferred to prepare for GOP probes into the origins of the coronavirus and the US departure from Afghanistan.

Inquiring into Hunter Biden’s conduct may be a bad faith distraction for most people concerned about domestic issues. Rep. Carolyn Maloney of New York, the current House Oversight Chair, previewed that argument in a statement replying to Comer.

As Maloney put it, “I’d hope my Republican colleagues focused on delivering for the American people than fake outrage.”
