On Wednesday morning, a 15-year-old girl was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder after reportedly killing the 35-year-old fiancé of her mother.
The teen was recognized as Sunshine Grace James by the sheriff’s office. For firing at her mother during the incident in Escambia County, Florida, she was additionally charged with attempted murder.
The mother and her fiance were asleep when the shooting took place at the Essex Pointe Apartments on E Johnson Ave. around 7 am, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to the authorities, the morning had been pleasant until James abruptly pulled out a revolver and fired at her mother, barely missing her, while also fatally shooting her mother’s fiancé.
The morning at the home started out to be fairly typical and even cordial, according to Sheriff Chip Simmons on Wednesday. Then, out of nowhere, James pulls out a revolver and fires two shots, one of which just misses her mother and the other of which hits her mother’s fiancé.

James drove away from the shooting site in her parents’ car and then to her boyfriend’s house, where she was apprehended by deputies in the 1200-block of Rio Grande Circle.
Despite being shot in the head, the mother lived. After being transported to the hospital, her fiancé passed away from his wounds.
The fiancé was taken to a nearby hospital, but he passed away from his injuries, according to ECSO spokesperson Morgan Lewis, who talked to the News Journal. His identity is still a secret.
If James will be charged as an adult, that decision will be made by the Office of the State Attorney. James had no record of a case file in adult criminal court as of Wednesday afternoon.
